The developer of the ingenious SandDevil asked
“Why not use sanding belts for hand
sanding,” and the SandDevil was born.
His
work requires intricate hand sanding to reduce
rough cuts made by large chisels and rasping
tools. He’s
found that standard one-piece sanding blocks
provide less than satisfactory results.
After
repeatedly changing worn and torn sandpaper on a
sanding block, he thought, “there has to be a
better way.”
Since his work sometimes requires the use
of an electric sander, he knew that sanding
belts were more durable, lasting much longer
than sheet sandpaper.
He has found that belts usually last for
months, whereas sandpaper will rip or wear out
in fifteen minutes.
He
combined the belt form from an electric sander
with a hand-held tool and developed a hand
sander that’s become an essential toolbox
component.
“I’ve found that standard 3” x
21” fabric-backed sanding belts are the way to
go.
